So many of us don’t know what to do when a loved one dies or faces a terminal illness. Cherishable encourages families to have much-needed and heartfelt conversations about preserving one’s legacy before it’s too late
A great guidebook for actions to take when facing end of life for any loved one.
Author has collected an outstanding supply of great ideas such as creating beautiful rituals to celebrate your loved one. Readers will be attaching Post-It notes to the sides of many of these pages. Author is a fountain of inspiration with these ideas. We're guided through the creative parts of being present in the multi-faceted journey of a life departing, and we're held with comfort and support when we get to the harder, heartbreaking parts.
The author's Christian focus comes to us as inspiring, not prescriptive. This book is exemplary in its voice and writing style. It has a unique voice, and the writing style is consistent throughout. Author has spent a lot of time collecting quotes for ideal placement at chapter starts.
I'm fascinated by this cover. The brown background provides the perfect home for the light bulb's glow, and author's choice of this particular kind of light bulb creates a timeless look in the light fixture itself. It could be old, could be Restoration Hardware. The glowing filament corresponds to the delicate filament connecting us to life and those in it. Gorgeous in its simplicity and symbolism.
Author's voice is conversational and masters the art of staying concise in any story or description. Author doesn't allow any narrative to overstay its welcome, which is a sign that an author isn't 100% sure of the narrative. Author is free of that constraint and writes with surety.
Author bravely described her experiences in the most emotionally challenging times, but we're most often spending time with a strong woman who shows us how to regulate our emotions to get the jobs done, the family updated, the questions answered and anything her loved one wants, she'll get it. It's a big job, and author shows readers who might just be at the start of it some effective ways to face this journey well.
Cherishable (An Illuminating Guide for Caregivers and Patients) by Julie J. Wylie is a non-fiction audiobook that would be best suited for those who have received a terminal diagnosis, those who know someone who has received a terminal diagnosis, and those in a grief-related field of work. This Christian grief book shares Julie’s own journey with grief and terminal illness that began when her mother received a terminal diagnosis. Julie’s journey was not only one of loss but one filled with beautiful remembrance rituals.
Cherishable (An Illuminating Guide for Caregivers and Patients) by Julie J. Wylie was a very well-written and well-narrated audiobook that made quite an emotional impact on me. As a psychology graduate who has studied the grieving process, I found this audiobook to be a valuable information source for ways that people can deal with the grief that comes from a terminal diagnosis in a healthy manner; by taking action to create remembrance rituals and to enjoy the time one has left with those around them. On an emotional level, as someone who has lost a grandmother to a terminal illness, I can only say that I wish I had listened to this audiobook prior to her passing as I feel it would have helped both of us deal with her oncoming eternal rest better.
The narrator of this audiobook was Julie J. Wylie. Ms. Wylie may not be a critically acclaimed voice actress, but no one would know that from her stellar audio performance. Ms. Wylie’s passion was clearly heard in her narration of
Cherishable. She did a simply spectacular job of drawing out the sentiments buried within this guide and sharing the emotions she felt along her own life journey with me.
